The Public Goods

The Kitchen/Laundry Room

Chapin's kitchen features a sink, cupboards, a refrigrator, a range/oven, and a microwave. Supply your own food. And don't make a mess, please! Appropriately enough, in the kitchen are also two washers and two dryers. One wash and dry session will run $1.50. They're operated using quarters or cash stored on your Wildcard.

Lounge

The Chapin lounge has a table, some chairs and some couches and a piano. It's a good place to hang out, do homework, and this is the place where we hold firesides. The art on the wall is now becoming largely the residents' own work.

The TV Lounge

Adjacent to the main lounge is the TV lounge. Here we have some chairs, two couches, a coffee table, and a TV with a cable hookup, and a VCR. There's also a list of movies people in the dorm own, and a sign-up board for the TV.

The Computer Room

In the computer room we have a really good PC, an OK Mac, and a really old Mac. We also have two laser printers of excellent quality. There's also a large table and a big whiteboard for group study sessions.

The Library

Chapin has shelves-full of volumes in our library, many of which are actually useful to our residents. This is a quieter room than the computer room and is the place to go if the hall is noisy and you need to bear down and do some serious studying.

The "Facilities"

Chapin's three bathrooms each feature four sinks, three stalls, and four private showers. They're cleaned regularly by staff.

Other Stuff

Chapin has a couple of soda pop vending machines, and a huge attic where we store all our stuff during the year, recently admirably cleaned out by our residents. Also, we used to have a ping-pong table but if broke, but we'll see what we can do about that. It was great!
